Take a right on County Road S-7, signposted "Lake Henshaw", go about 1000 feet and turn left just beyond the fire station, on Crestline Road, signposted "Palomar County Park". Be watchful for fast oncoming traffic as you make this left turn. You will ascend another 500 feet in the next mile. You will soon pass the turnoff for the County Park, keep going straight. The road will crest the summit, dip down, then ascend past antennas. Just past the historic Lodge (on your left) you will reach the end of the paved road, and another antenna farm. Take a right at the yellow and red reflectors onto the gravel "Birch Hill Road".
