Announcing a Contest
for models to display with the Evans & Sutherland
Digistar II planetarium projector
on the IMAX Dome

Deadline: Friday 13 June 2003

The Reuben H. Fleet Science Center's new planetarium projector, the Digistar II from the 3D graphics veterans at Evans and Sutherland in Utah, is used mainly to project stars and constellations for planetarium shows. But it is the first digital planetarium projector, and is fully programmable to do 3D points and lines in the immersive dome environment. The staff at the Fleet have agreed to work with us to hold a contest for the best 3D models to display on this unique device.

Prizes: Bags of Goodies from San Diego SIGGRAPH and the RH Fleet

Winners will be displayed at the June San Diego SIGGRAPH event.

Technical Details

Only points and line segments (vectors) will be displayed. If polygons are present the polygon edges will be used as line segments. We haven't found a hard maximum; at least 25,000 primitives can be displayed. The file formats we can accept are:

3D animation by cycling through 3D models is supported; please no more than 12 iterations.

Other Details

Entry must be emailed to abs@well.com or postal mailed on data CD to:

and dated or postmarked by midnight 13 June 2003.

Include the following statement:
